The Maybank Malaysian Open, as it is currently known for sponsorship reasons, is a men's professional golf tournament on the European and Asian Tours. Since its inauguration in 1962, there has never been a Malaysian winner.
The tournament was first sanctioned by the European Tour in 1999, as part of its expansion into Asia, which began in 1989. The 2010 event was held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club with a prize fund of US$2 million.[1] Former winners include former World Number 1, Vijay Singh, and European Ryder Cup star, Lee Westwood.
On the European Tour this week is the Maybank Malaysian Open, a tournament that is scheduled to run from the 12th of April to the 15th. It is going to feature a grand prize purse of $2,500,000 and will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This tournament will be the second one in April for the Euro Tour and will be followed by the Volvo China Open, which happens at the Binhai Lake Golf Club in Tianjin, China from the 19th to the 22nd of April, followed by the Ballantine's Championship starting April 26tth.
